Mark Sinclair from Wanaka Stakeholders Group Inc. has been in touch to see if any students want to get involved in the organisation.
He says the group has been “set up to advocate for a positive, community-led future for people living in the Upper Clutha – we want our elected representatives to make good decisions, be transparent and involve the community via real consultation around big decisions. Only then, will we get it right. Right now we are 100% focussed on plans for QLDC and QAC (Queenstown Airport Corporation) to redevelop our airport into a large, jet-capable airport twice the size of Queenstown airport. Our membership is growing fast – with over 1,600 members we are the largest membership organisation in the Upper Clutha. Time is tight, our core team of volunteers is stretched to the max. We want Wanaka Youth to be closely involved. Its your future we are fighting to make better!”
They are offering volunteering opportunities to MAC students in return for “the experience of being a WSG volunteer, and the knowledge that you are helping shape a better, more inclusive community.” Volunteering roles include:
- Online research (looking at key topics and gathering facts/info)
- Posting information to our website (wordpress)
- Helping clean and analyse membership data
- Helping with member signups
- Working on fundraising
- Content for social media
To get involved, email them at volunteer@wsg.org.nz with your details.
