Here’s Madi Gainsford hanging out with the Pippins, making Matariki quilts

“This week I helped the girls out teaching them about Matariki, we sung a Waiata and talked about the seven sisters which make a star formation in the sky to signify the Maori New Year. We then coloured in stars to make a quilt of stars out of paper to brighten up the hall!”

Having fun while building intergenerational understanding is just one of the ways that Madi is contributing to her community through the SIC programme – she’s also involved in coaching hockey and helping out at events and has clocked up more than 50 volunteer hours so far this year and it’s not even yet July!
